Program
Structure The MCA Program covers
33 courses spread over 3 years in 6 semesters. Apart from soft skills
labs, students will also undergo summer internship and a computer
application project/Internship II. The program structure given
below is tentative and subject to change, if required.

Summer
Internship Project (SIP) I
The
students are required to do SIP-I at the end of year 1. The SIP-I will
be a project done in the campus with guidance from the faculty which
help the students to apply theory to practical solutions. SIP I
duration is 8 weeks and has a weightage of 10 units.
Summer
Term The
students have a Summer Term at the end of year 2 where they will be
offered certification courses from Microsoft, Oracle, IBM and PMI.
Computer
Application Project/Internship II
All students undertake the Computer Application Project (CAP)/Internship
II during the third year of the program, in the sixth-semester.
The
CAP is a semester long research project undertaken during
the final semester and focuses on practical training in software
development. The objective of CAP is to provide students an "On-the-Job
Training" opportunity through involvement in a real-time project.
CAP requires students to pursue a detailed project in the
specific company in the areas of computer software and hardware through a
specially designed project. This is supplemented by literature survey and
library research. Students are expected to study and analyze the IT initiatives
of the company in addition to the company’s operations, and then develop a
software solution for the company.
The students will be guided and evaluated on a continuous
basis by a faculty member of ISIT and a senior executive from the CAP
organization, who acts as a mentor.
CAP carries a weightage of
25 units which is equivalent to
five regular courses of four units each, the duration is 24 weeks.
Soft
Skills Development
The
soft skills’ training is provided by ISIT to all its students during the
course of the MCA program. This training also helps students in career visioning
and planning, effective resume writing and dealing with the placement
consultants and recruiters.
Objectives
-
to
develop effective communication skills (spoken and written).
-
to
develop effective presentation skills.
-
to
become a self-confident person by mastering inter-personal skills, team
management skills and leadership skills.
-
to
develop all round personality with a mature outlook to function effectively
in different circumstances.
The pedagogy includes lectures, projects, role
plays, quizzes, and various other participatory sessions. The emphasis will be
on experiential learning i.e, learning by doing.
Academic Initiatives at ISIT
ISIT has signed up with Microsoft, SAP, IBM,
PMI and Oracle to
become their accredited Academic Alliance Institutions.
As a part of the
program, ISIT will prepare students to
appear for Certification Courses offered by Microsoft and become a Microsoft
Certified Professional, MCSA, MCSD, MCAD etc. The course material and training will be provided by the
trained ISIT faculty as per the guidelines of Microsoft IT Academy. Thus in addition to the MCA degree, the students of ISIT
can also obtain additional Certifications under various Microsoft Programs.
Similarly under Oracle Academic Initiative
(OAI), Oracle will
deliver State-of-the-art Oracle Software and curriculum resources to ISIT
students to facilitate them to obtain Oracle Certification.
ISIT has signed up SAP under the SAP University Alliance
package for Indian Universities. Under this program, students can use and gain
hands-on experience on SAP software, and they are ready to work with SAP
enterprise systems.
ISIT
has also become a member of the IBM Academic Initiative. Under this partnership
ISIT will have access to the latest software, hardware, course materials and
other resources of IBM, like IBM DB2 UDB Suite, IBM Websphere Suite, IBM Lotus
Suite, IBM Tivoli Suite, Rational Software
ISIT
also proposes to have an academic alliance with PMI. The students will have
the opportunity to get PMP and CAPM Certification from PMI. These are very
valuable and highly regarded certifications by IT professionals for those
handling projects.
In
addition to the above Academic Initiatives, ISIT is in the process of getting
more Alliances. All these are additional certifications beyond the MCA
qualification and this will help the students in gaining additional knowledge,
expertise and acceptance in the Industry.
Software Development
Students
of ISIT will have an opportunity to get software development experience by
working on live projects at the software development centre. The software
developed in this centre will be used for various activities and the students
will have an opportunity not only on developing the software but also on testing
it under real time conditions. This will provide a good opportunity for ISIT
students to gain hands on experience in the full system development lifecycle
and software project management.
Awards
Students
who successfully complete the MCA Program will receive the "Master of
Computer Applications" Degree from the ICFAI University, Dehradun.
